Zakiya Bomani established Sugar & Spice DC with a singular focus: to design environments defined by uncompromising intention. Every element is calibrated to serve the atmosphere—never the inverse. Drawing on a decade of refined design expertise, she applies an exacting eye for texture, light, and spatial proportion to each project. Through the deliberate layering of fine linens, ambient candlelight, and architectural forms, she transforms venues into immersive worlds composed entirely around a defining moment. Her philosophy balances restraint with commanding presence—every detail earns its place, nothing competes for focus, and the result is an experience that feels both effortless and inevitable.

Maya translates the visual concept into a refined physical space with precision and care. She handpicks every fabric swatch, working closely with textile suppliers to find the right textures and tones. She coordinates deliveries across multiple vendors, timing each arrival so the room comes together seamlessly. On event day, she’s there personally, checking everything — the weight of a linen drape, the angle of a candle, the exact placement of a centerpiece — making small, deliberate adjustments until every element feels intentional and nothing is left to chance.
